I BELIEVE ART SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE
Hi there! My name is Jennifer and I am a painter and collage artist who creates abstract art for people looking to update and modernize their home on a budget. I am also the designer and programmer behind the website here at 1010artistry.
I believe our surroundings have an impact on our mood, and that we all deserve to love the spaces we spend time in. I have experienced first-hand the impact art can have on our experience of a space – which is why I create affordable art that anyone can use to refresh their space and create a modern, eclectic vibe.
I have also experienced the joy of making things with my hands and the impact art in any form – painting, cooking, journaling, decorating, writing – can have in your life. I’m here to encourage you to either pick up that art form you’ve been wanting to try, or to keep going with your practice when you’re feeling frustrated.
My Art Style
I did not grow up drawing, painting, or really practicing any form of art at all. I am an engineer by training and worked as a computer programmer for many years. For most of my life I claimed that I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body! I was proud of my left- brained tendencies.
That all changed when I had my two boys and left the corporate world. Like so many moms out there, I began to seek the creative outlet I hadn’t realized I needed.
The art I create now reflects this dichotomy: engineered combined with messy, loose combined with structured, grunge combined with beautiful colors. I create using mixed media materials and techniques including acrylic paint and ink, oil pastel, book pages, old homework from college, junk mail, cereal boxes – pretty much anything I can paint on, glue down, or use as a mark making tool. I tend to favor more simple compositions and my favorite shape – circles.
